Onion Price Reduced: Has the Quality Been Compromised?

December 12: The price of onions have hit a peak of Rs 180/kg in the city for the last few days. Onions were imported from Egypt and Turkey but did not make a good difference in the price or quality.
The new stock that arrived is being sold at Rs 100/kg and the price of the old variety is down by Rs 10 to Rs 150/kg. The smaller one’s which earlier sold at Rs 10/kg is being sold at Rs 50/kg.
At Central Market, the new onion stock was selling at Rs 100/kg but has a week’s shelf life and stockists cannot keep it for long. The old stock which has more shelf life is being sold at Rs Rs 150/kg.
