740 kg Non-Oven Polypropylene Bags Seized in Mangalore: Plastic Ban being Implemented

September 8: Officials from Mangalore City Corporation raided Eco bags manufacturing unit at Mulihitlu and seized 740 kg of non-oven polypropylene bags and collected a fine of Rs 10,000 from the owner. The value of the seized bags is estimated to be more than Rs 1.25 lakh.
The raid was conducted by Shabarinath Rai, environment engineer, health inspectors Karunakar, Bharath, Yashwanth, Rakshitha and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board officials Keerthi Kumar and Vivek.
Along with this the officials raided shops at Bendoorwell and seized 41.50 kg banned plastic and collected a fine of Rs 23,000.
The MCC has constituted four teams for the implementation of plastic ban following order from the State-Level Committee (SLC), constituted following a direction from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which earlier urged the government authorities to strictly implement plastic ban notification in the state, by resorting to collecting penalties from September 1.
