Huge Well Which Is Century Old Discovered In Mangalore: Click To Know More About This

September 18: A huge well which is almost a century old has been discovered in Mangalore city. The well has been found near the rickshaw parking near the Hampanakatte signal during road excavation work undertaken few days back under the Smart City project. A concrete slab was found during the work and when the slab was lifted, a deep well was discovered.
Locals informed that there is a story that a century ago which says Appanna, a native of Hampanakatte, would provide water to thirsty travellers coming to Mangalore. Hence the area got the name ‘Appanna katte’ which later became ‘Hampanakatte.’
Mohammed Nazir, Managing Director, Mangaluru Smart City Limited said that the work there has been stopped for a while. The project will be discussed with the concerned Departmental Officers, including the local administration regarding saving the well.
