Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar Takes One Big Step: Launches Operation Suraksha in Mangalore

January 5: Mangalore City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar has launched ‘Operation Suraksha’ under which people unreasonably moving around in dark and unlit areas or drinking and creating a nuisance to law-abiding citizens.
This was launched on January 3, Sunday, during which as many as 101 people were picked up and their credentials verified and were questioned about their suspicious or anti-social behaviour. Videos of the people caught being a nuisance have been recorded. Commissioner Shashi Kumar warned the youth that cases will be booked against them in case they are found guilty again. He said that the area domination exercise was conducted to check people needlessly moving around in dark unlit areas.
Under operation Suraksha, Places such as gardens, parks, open stadiums, areas near bars, bus stands, lodges, railway tracks, will be checked and people drinking in cars, fields, parked vehicles will be picked up.  The exercise will be conducted twice or thrice a week in various police station limits.
