Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple Town Bans Sale & Use of Tobacco Products: Great Decision
The Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple town in Dakshina Kannada will be free from tobacco products as the Subrahmanya gram panchayat (GP) has banned the sale of beedi, cigarettes and other tobacco products at all shops in the temple town. Further, the GP also has decided to ban use of chewable tobacco products to keep the town clean.
Devotees from across the country have been thronging the temple for Champa Shashti Mahotsava, which will be on till December 5.
The gram panchayat has adopted a resolution to impose a permanent ban to ensure that devotees and tourists arriving at the temple town are not inconvenienced due to smoking.
Since smoking in public places is banned as per the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), we will also seek police help to implement the provisions and impose penalties on those who violate the rules. The GP will also check the use of drugs or other substances.
