Heavy Rainfall Continues in Mangalore: Low Lying Areas in the City Face Flooding
As many as 30 places in the three coastal districts received heavy rains in the last 24 hours till 8.30am on Wednesday. The highest rainfall in the state was recorded in Mangalore & Udupi district. IMD has prediced red alert for coastal districts till July 9th. Rainfall was widespread, moderate to heavy with isolated to scattered places receiving very heavy rains to extremely heavy rain.
The rainfall in Mangalore has become more intense creating traffic snarls, artificial flooding in low lying areas of the city, affecting normal life.
Barring Mahaveer Circle (Pumpwell Circle), other low-lying areas like Jappinamogaru, Kottara Chowki, Kodialguthu and Bejai were inundated with drains unable to take the deluge, especially in the evening.
For the first time since south west monsoon arrived in Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada district recorded surplus rain on Wednesday. In the last 24 hours till 8.30am on Wednesday, the district recorded 101mm rainfall, which is 165% more than the normal of 38mm.
