Tender coconut water at just Rs 4: Hatsoff to Mangalore’s Natural Ice-cream
July 2: Land flavours from where Natural Ice-cream operates its tender coconut pulp and water unit in Mangalore is offering tender coconut water at just Rs 4 per glass. This is located at Adyar, outskirts of Mangalore city. People are seen standing in long queues with bottles to buy the tender coconut water from the unit.
Raghunandan Kamath, the founder of natural ice-creams said that 6000 to 7000 coconuts are collected on an average to make ice-creams. Tender Coconut water is a by-product, it was first decided to process the tender coconut water and sell it to bottling units, but later the decision was taken to sell the tender coconut water to locals at a cheaper rate than mineral water.
The entire process of removing water from the tender coconut is mechanized. The tender coconut is cut inside and the water flows through pipes into a large container placed outside. The customers can either drink the tender coconut water then and there or take away in bottles. Ther are two separate queues made, one to drink water on spot and one to take away in bottles.
