Protest at Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL): Here is the reason
August 1: The contract labourers of the Adani-owned coal-based Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) staged a protest outside the company office. The protest was against the management for denying them minimum wages and bonus.
Balakrishna Shetty, CITU state secretary, alleged that the management had failed to revise the salaries of the contract labourers. He mentioned that a meeting was held with the representatives of the company on July 12 warning them of organising a protest if the demands of contract labourers were not met. He even complained that some of the contract labourers have been working for 14 years but have not received salary increment all these years.
