Ticketless travelling in Kannur-Mangalore section: Huge amount of penalty collected

August 3: Palakkad Division conducted a special ticket checking drive at railway stations and in trains in the Kannur-Mangaluru section. The special ticket checking was done as per the instruction of Pratap Singh Shami, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division. Assistant Commercial Manager of Palakkad Division S Sunil Kumar led the ticket checking team which included 15 Ticket checking staffers, assisted by Railway Protection Force personnel.
As many as 654 ticketless travellers were held during the drive and Rs 2,33,280 was collected as penalty from them.
During the drive, it was found that unreserved/season ticket holders are increasingly entering into the reserved coaches. Ticket Checking Wing has clarified that travelling in reserved coaches with the unreserved ticket is not permitted and such passengers will be penalized according to the ticket checking rule. The minimum fine is Rs 250, in addition to fare calculated as per rules.
