Need to Boost Tourism in Dakshina Kannada & Udupi: DC Sasikanth Senthil
August 8: Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S inaugurated Connect 2019, a programme organised by the department of tourism on tourism potential of the two districts on Wednesday, August 7.
DC Senthil mentioned that additional thrust will be given to boost the tourism potential of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. He said that even thought the districts are blessed by a bounty of nature, both traditionally and culturally, it is unfortunate that the two districts have not been able to attract tourists and build on the tourism potential to increase the tourism sector.
The DC exhorted stakeholders – hotels, homestays and other tourist lodging facilities – who can invest in tourism in a small way – to boost this sector. He also stated that the upcoming Karnataka International Travels Expo-2019 which will be held at Bangalore from August 25 to 27 is expected to give further fillip to tourism.
S Naveen Kumar Raju, joint commissioner, department of tourism said that the International Travels Expo-2019 at Bangalore is set to become a reality on the back of nearly two years of behind-the-scenes efforts put in by various stakeholders. He reminded local stakeholders that registration for the expo is already underway. This expo will provide a platform for small investors and entrepreneurs to introduce their tourism related enterprise to various stakeholders who will be attending the event from different parts of the country and even from abroad. The society will provide a one-stop solution to various issues that those involved in the tourism sector like hotel owners, travellers and homestay owners face, and which he admitted was not being addressed effectively and on desired lines in the past.
