February 21: Rumors have been circulating on WhatsApp that poultry meat is linked to coronavirus. Rumors circulating on social networking sites have plagued the state’s poultry industry.
This false news is causing loss to poultry industry. The wholesale price of chicken meat in Mangalore on Wednesday was Rs 78-80 whereas the retail is at Rs 95.
A fact search was conducted to find out the truth and at the same time, the central and state governments have made it clear that coronavirus is not transmitted by poultry based on scientific reports worldwide.
