After a Delay of Fifteen Months, The Yakshagana Artistes Will Finally Be Presented With Awards

The Dayananda Pai and P Satish Pai Yakshagana Adhyayana Kendra, Mangalore University, will be presenting its decennial awards and Yakshamangala awards to the recipients.

As part of the decennial celebrations of the kendra, 17 Yakshagana artistes were selected for the awards on November 21, 2021. However, the event was postponed due to the MLC elections and several other reasons.

Besides, the number of awardees, which was 17 then, has been increased to 20. The Yakshamangala awards are conferred every year to recognize Yakshagana artistes from Badagutittu and Tenkutittu melas. PS Yadapadithya, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University said that the Yakshagana artistes were unhappy as their names were announced for the awards but were not given the awards.
