Arebhashe Dictionary- An Initiative by Assistant Professor at St Aloysius College to be Released on July 30
‘Arebhashe Padakosha-Arebase Kannada-English Dictionary’ an initiative by Vishwanath Badikana, assistant professor, Kannada, St Aloysius College, and a member of the academy is complete and the Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi and Sahitya Academy will release the dictionary on July 30.
The book has about 18,000 words. The dictionary has been edited online. It has more than 1,300 proverbs and 300 riddles, and for every word, there is a sentence, to explain the usage. In addition, there are more than 300 idioms. Every word also has a Roman script International Phonetic Alphabet, and has meanings in Kannada and English. Similar words that are used in Tulu and Kannada have also been included.
A team of eight research assistants helped in compiling the words for the dictionary between December 2019 and February 2020. Academy member Bharathesha Alasandemajalu provided the overall technical support.
