As Many As 30 Foreign Students Have Sought Admission at Mangalore University This Academic Year

This academic year Mangalore University received 208 applications, it could admit only 30 students. Many of the applicants were unable to secure admission at MU or any other university in India as they did not qualify for ICCR scholarships. Second, some candidates apply to multiple institutions and chose the better ones. Interestingly, for many candidates, MU is their first preferred institution. Third, candidates who want to study in Karnataka, Bangalore University is the most sought-after.

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor PS Yadapadithaya said that as of today, there are about 136 students foreign. Among them, 25 have enrolled in undergraduate courses, 23 are pursuing PG degrees, and a major chunk of about 88 are Ph.D. scholars. Most of the foreign candidates are funded through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships, and few of them are under a self-financed scheme.
