Ban on Plastic in Sullia Postponed to September 1: This is the Reason

August 15: Earlier, Sullia Town Panchayat had decided to implement ban on Plastic from August 15. Swaccha Sullia team and others had demonstrated alternatives to plastic. To create awareness on plastic ban among public and to dispose plastic waste scientifically a two-wheeler rally was held from Chennakeshava Temple where the riders picked all the dumped plastics on the main road.
But due to heavy rain, Sullia Town Panchayat has now decided to postpone the implementation of ban on plastic to September 1. The decision was made during a preparatory meeting chaired by Town Panchayat administrative and tahsildar N A Kunhi Ahammed.
It was decided to take out awareness rallies from Halegate in Sullia to Gandhinagara. Along with this, the shopkeepers and public would be informed about the ill effects of plastic.
Fine will be imposed on the shopkeepers stocking the banned plastics after September 1.
