Campaign Launched in Udupi District to Collect Smartphones For Underprivileged Students

A campaign to collect old & spare smart phones for poor/underprivileged students has been launched by the department of public instruction in Udupi district. The campaign is to collect old or spare smartphones from well-off residents and distribute them among poor students to use in online class. The campaign was launched after a survey, which revealed that 2,688 children in the district are unable to access online classes for  not having a smart phone. People with an extra or old smartphone have been requested to donate the devices to block education officers of their respective areas. NH Nagur, Udupi deputy director of public instruction said that the DDPI has requested all five block education in the district to collect old mobiles. The department is providing solar lamps to class 10 students living in huts and small units in villages don’t have electricity connection. A campaign to distribute solar lamps has also been taken up with the help of donors.
