Change in Mangalore Dasara Procession: Crowd to witness Something Different for the First time
September 23: The Mangalore Dasara procession of Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple which attracts thousands of peope every year is going to different this year.
People who come to witness the procession need to wait for four to five hours to see Navadurga Ganesha idols and offer poojas to Sharada idol which come after the tableaus. It takes more than 12-13 hours for the procession to cover the route and reach kudroli temple for immersion. The delay is mainly due to tableaus which are almost 100 in number that precede the Navadurga, Sharada and Ganesha.
Therefore the Kudroli temple authorities have decided to take the trucks carrying Navadurga, Sharada and Ganesha idols first. All the with tableaus will be allowed to move behind the trucks carrying Navadurga, Sharada and Ganesha idols.
Temple treasurer R Padmaraj said the changes were made following the directions of temple chief B Janardhana Poojary. Temple committee president H S Sairam said changes are being made in order to reduce the inconvenience to the people who come to witness the Navadurga, Ganesh and Sharada Procession. Since the 100 tableaus were allowed to move first devotees have been complaining that they were forced to go back without seeing idols as the procession is delayed to increased number of tableaus. He also mentioned that this will reduce the delay in the immersion rituals at least by 4 to 5 hours.
