Coronavirus Scare: Tourism Sector Severely Affected In The District

March 12: As corona fears increase in the country and overseas, it is increasingly affecting the tourism industry globally. The horror of this coronavirus has literally wiped out the calculation of the upcoming summer vacation home-abroad trip.
Cruise season just started and due this the corona scare, the ships have been asked not to halt at Mangalore Port till March 31. Several Foreign tourists have also cancelled the booking. No foreign tourists are coming to the district. Instead tourists from the outer state are coming. A total of 2 crore tourists arrived in the district last year. From January 019 to the end of last year, 17,115 foreigners arrived in various ships of the NMPT for a tour of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district. From April 1 to December 24, a total of 17 cruise ships arrived. These tourists travel to different tourist destinations of the two districts. This has majorly affected the tourism sector.
Taxi operators taking passengers and tourists to and from the airport, train station are at a loss. Compared to last year, the number of visitors to the district is decreasing.
