Couple comes up with an idea involving school children to save local birds
August 6: Nithyananda Shetty Badyar and his wife have started a campaign in various government schools of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The campaign is called ‘Gubbachigondu goodu’ (shelter for birds). This campaign is launched in order to protect the local birds.
The Shetty couple has already kept several mud pots offering water and grains to the birds offer nearly one kg grains to birds visiting their house from surrounding area everyday. Along with this, they have planted local species of flowering and fruiting trees and have distributed pots to nearly 850 houses
They have been visiting schools for the past two years and spreading awareness on the need to conserve birds and the importance as well as the importance of a green belt around. As many as 151 schools have been visited and workshops have been conducted by the couple. They donate a mud pot to the school after conducting the workshop and expect the children to fill it with water for birds to quench their thirst.
The couple recently launched ‘Pakshi Paata’ (lesson on birds) on Sundays and visit local villages to conduct sessions on bird conservation.
The couple aims to have ‘Gubbachi goodu’ in every house.
