Cyclone Kyarr Moves Away: Coast Guard District Headquarters Start Search & Rescue Efforts

October 28: The meteorological department’s confirmed that Cyclone Kyarr has turned towards the Oman coast.  In spite of the confirmation the Coast Guard district headquarters has stepped up search & rescue efforts off the Karnataka coast.
A Dornier aircraft stationed at the Coast Guard’s air enclave is undertaking frequent sorties to look for stranded fishing boats.
DIG S S Dasila, commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka said that they are coordinating with fisheries departments and confirming fishing boats are presently operating at sea.
In separate daring search-and-rescue operations on Friday annd Saturday under rough sea conditions, rescued nine fishermen each from Malpe-based IFB Rajkiran and Mangalore based IFB MA Maheel that were stranded off Karwar and Devgadgudda since Thursday and Friday respectively. The rescued fishermen were provided food and medical aid and taken to Malpe and Mangalore harbour where they were handed over to CSP and fisheries department officials, he said.
