Deadline given to vehicles transporting fish to install waste water tanks

June 22: Mangalore city Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil has given a deadline to all the vehicles transporting fish to install wastewater tanks. He said that all the vehicles which transport fish in the region should be fitted with a wastewater tank by July 31 to prevent spillage of wastewater onto the roads.
Commissioner Patil mentioned that that officers are regularly monitoring the fitting of wastewater tanks and only 62 vehicles have complied with the order so far. As the next fishing season will start on August 1, police has asked the fish transporters to operate vehicles only if they were fitted with wastewater tanks. If a vehicle is found without wastewater tank, it would be seized. Prior to the ban on fishing, 37 such vehicles were seized by police, he added.
