Deadline to Obtain FASTag is Not December 1: Government Extends the Date

November 30:  The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to install Fastags in all tollgates of the country. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had earlier announced FASTages will be Mandatory from December 1 and toll payments on highways would be accepted through FASTags only.
The government has now extended the date to December 15 for making FASTag mandatory for toll payments on national highways in order to facilitate sufficient lead time to citizens to obtain FASTag.
This enables the vehicle to drive through plazas without stopping, as the device employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it. It will be affixed on the windscreen.
After announcing the waiver of tag cost from November 21, there has been a growth in issuing the FASTag. All the available mode of recharges such as debit card, credit card, net banking and Unified Payments Interface have been enabled for loading money to the FASTag account.
