Dengue Cases Likely to Rise During This Monsoon in DK & Udupi: Health Department Issues Warning
The health department officials have warned of the possibility of dengue spreading during monsoon as 41 cases have been reported in the Dakshina Kannada district in less than four months. Out of 244 samples tested from two villages in the Udupi district, 51 came out positive for dengue.
More dengue cases were reported from apartments in Kankanady Valencia and Kadri areas. Of the 41 cases, 19 were reported in Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) limits, followed by seven each in Mangalore taluk and Belthangady, four cases in Bantwal and two each in Puttur and Sullia taluks.
Dakshina Kannada district vector-borne disease control officer Dr Naveenchandra Kulal said that cases of dengue are likely to increase as the district is receiving intermittent rain. Stagnant water helps breed mosquitoes in rural areas while apartment terraces are breeding grounds in cities.
