Drug Abuse Increasing in City: Are Pubs One of the Main Sources?

September 25:  A campaign to create awareness on communal harmony, drug menace and cybercrime was organised at Canara College in Mangalore on Tuesday, September 24. The awareness programme was organised jointly by the police department, in association with district administration and Dakshina Kananda District Working Journalists’ Association at Canara College.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Kadlooru Satyanarayanacharya said that drug abuse takes place in the pubs without any hindrance and the children are supplied drugs in pubs without their knowledge. Judge Satyanarayanacharya mentioned that in the name of lifestyle people permit their young children to visit pubs but are unaware what happens in the pubs. He also mentioned that officers who try to trace the source of drug racket, drug mafia are transferred immediately.
City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha advised the students not to fall prey to narcotic drugs to get intoxicated during college or school days. Commissioner said that the network that supplies drugs is a group engaged in organised crime and the money from selling drugs is used for funding anti-national activities.
