Fake Currency Racket in Town: Two End Up in Jail After Cheating Many

September 20: A couple from Davangere who cheated shopkeepers in rural areas by using fake currency noes were arrested by Karkala rural and Kaup police in a joint operation.
The arrested are Chethan Gowda, 23, a resident of PB Road, Davangere and and his girlfriend Arpita P Navale, a resident of J C Road, Chennagiri taluk, Davanagere.
The two had arrived in a SUV went to buy an ointment from a medical shop in Kedinje in Karkala at around 10 am. The price of the ointment was Rs 43 and the duo handed over a note of face value Rs 200 to the medical shop owner. The owner who grew suspicious about the note as the note lacked resemblance to the original currency rushed to a nearby bank in order to check the authenticity. After confirming that the currency was fake, Shetty alerted Karkala rural police station Sub Inspector Nasir Hussain. Following a joint operation, the duo were arrested at Kothalakatte under Kaup police station limits at around 5 pm.
The Police have seized an SUV, four fake currency notes, a printer and other materials used for printing fake notes from the accused. The two were inspired by Youtube videos had ordered for a scanning machine through an online store. They used the machine to produce fake currencies. They  however, had succeeded in fooling traders in places like Mysuru, Davanagere and Belagavi.
