Festive Season is Here & The Prices of Bananas Skyrocket Due to High Demand & Low Supply
The price of bananas has skyrocketed due to crop damage and low yields because of heavy rains. It’s festive season and the demand for bananas has increased.
The price of Kadali bananas, which are sold in large quantities, has increased by Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg. Locally grown Kadali bananas are being sold at Rs 80 per kg at B C Road, compared to Rs 50 just a week ago. Kadali bananas from the ghat region are now priced at Rs 120 per kg, while raw Kadali bananas are being sold to wholesalers for Rs 88 to Rs 90, also reflecting a Rs 20 to Rs 30 increase. Other varieties, such as Gaali, Ash bananas, and Cavendish, are being sold for Rs 40 per kg, with higher-quality produce fetching Rs 50 per kg. Mysuru bananas are being sold for Rs 60, while the local variety costs Rs 50 per kg.
Traders expect prices to rise further as the festive season continues, although they anticipate a decrease after the festivals, provided the supply improves.
