Gold worth Rs 4.65 lakh at seized Mangalore International Airport
Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) seized foreign origin gold of 24-Karat purity weighing 142.70 grams worth Rs 4.65 lakh from a passenger. The gold was concealed in the form of 32 mercury coated pieces in four magnetic bracelets of the passenger who arrived from Dubai by Spice Jet flight SG60 on March 19.
Customs officials on March 16, March 11, March 9 and March 4 have found cases where passengers have tried to smuggle gold paste in their rectum. Similarly a case was also detected on March 3rd where attempt was made to clandestinely bring in gold concealed as silver coated plate in heating element of an electric travel cooker.
