Good News: Tannirbhavi Beach Has Been Selected For the ‘One Beach, One Destination’ Initiative

The Tannirbhavi beach stretch up to the forest department’s Tree Park is has been selected for the ‘One Beach, One Destination’ initiative. The aim is to transform the beach into a prime tourist destination through comprehensive enhancements.

The Blue Flag Beach project received a funding of Rs 7.59 crore from the union ministry of environment, forest, and climate change and Rs 7 crore from Mangalore Smart City

Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP said that fresh tenders have been floated for maintaining the main beach. For the Tannir Bhavi Blue Flag Beach, the technical evaluation of tenders is underway and nearing completion and soon the financial bid will be open. Approximately 90% of the beach’s development work is complete. Key eco-friendly initiatives, such as waste management systems and solar installations, are already operational at the Blue Flag Beach. While the entrance work by Mangalore Smart City Limited is still in progress, the beach is open to the public. Entry fees have been set according to Blue Flag guidelines, aimed at supporting maintenance efforts.

The ‘Blue Flag’ certification is an eco-tourism benchmark that ensures clean bathing water, modern amenities, safety, and sustainable development. Karnataka’s Padubidri and Kasarkod beaches already hold this prestigious certification.
