Group of tourists were caned by Home guards at Malpe beach: Know what happened?
June 17: The home guard personnel who was posted to ensure the safety of visitors at the beach was seen preventing the tourists from emtering the sea at malpe beach as the sea had been rough. Due to onset of monsoon tourists were banned from stepping into the choppy waters in Malpe beach.
Sources said that a group of four youth from Mandya did not pay heed to the repeated warnings of the personnel to cross the danger line. Irked by the attitude of the youths, the personnel allegedly caned the tourists.
Leaseholder for developing the Malpe Beach, Sudesh Shetty defended the caning by the personnel and said that some action is necessary against tourists who do not follow safety measures on the beach, particularly during the monsoon, specially against visitors who are under the influence of alcohol ignore the warnings of home guard personnel.
Malpe police clarified that the home guard personnel only wielded the stick and did not cane the tourists as alleged. The police mentioned that this was done keeping in mind the safety of tourists.
