Hike in Traffic Fines: Udupi District Collects Rs 1.75 Lakh in Just Three Days

September 9: The hiked rates for violation of traffic rules came into effect in Udupi district from  September 5. Since then a total amount of 1,75,800 was collected as spot fines in the district out of the which, Rs 1,12,500 was collected on Saturday alone.
Nearly 300 cases were registered and fine was collected on the spot out of which 72 cases were of two-wheeler riders riding without helmets and 66 cases were relating to not wearing seatbelts.
A procession of the new office bearers of the union was taken out in over ten open vehicles, accompanied by various other vehicles. After the procession reached MGM College in the evening, several students tried to enter the college ground. Several people were stopped and fined for violation of traffic rules, non-possession of driving licence, documents etc by the police.
