Hope For Children With Anomalies: Spread a Word on Free Advanced Pediatric Surgical Programme
November 20: KMC Hospital Attavar will be organising the fourth year of Bal Shalyakriya Mission (BSM), a free advanced pediatric surgical programme, in collaboration with Peedh Parai International, Houston, and Bantwal Ananth Mallya Charitable Trust. As a part of the surgical camp, a free assessment of the children suffering from anomalies and deformities will be held at KMC Hospital Attavar between Monday to Friday, 10 am to 12.30 pm till January 21, to get free treatment from experts.
Dr Jayateertha Joshi, assistant professor, Pediatrics Surgery, told reporters at Pathrika Bhavana recently, that the mission helped children up to 16 years with untreated complicated surgical conditions requiring very high surgical expertise get treated free of cost. In 2018, as many as 50 surgeries were carried out, of which 40 were paediatric and 10 were orthopaedic under Bal Shalyakriya Mission.
“We strive to provide patient-centric services so that medical facilities are accessible to each and every patient needing medical attention. Orthopaedic symptoms in children can be treated under this programme. Kids in the past were screened from remote areas of Shivamogga, Kodagu, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada, Davangere, Kasargod and Kannur districts,” he said.
Dr Joshi said, “We see many parents who cannot afford the advanced treatment for their children due to their financial constraints. Patients suffering from anoretal malformation, Hirschsprung’s disease, vesicoureteric reflux, PUJ obstruction, thoracic congenital anomalies that are unattended can be referred to the surgery under BSM.”
Jeetendra Nayak from the Bantwal Trust said, “The goal is to deliver the advances of surgical sciences to the deprived children. Peedh Parai International led by Dr Ashwin Pimpalwar, paediatric general and thoracic surgeon, Texas Children’s Hospital, is the brainchild behind the programme. Bal Shalyakriya Mission is organised in Nagpur. Spine Experts come from Atlanta to Nagpur under the Mission and have performed hunchback surgery as well.”
The trust provides medicines from pre to post-operative care and food to patients. The surgery will be conducted at KMC Hospital, Attavar, by a team of expert paediatric surgeons from the US, including Dr Ashwain Pimpalwar, Dr Eric Johns, Dr Sumith Gupta along with doctors from KMC Hospital, Attavar, from February 3 to 7.
