Horekanike to St Lawrence Shrine at Bondel is quite unique: Click to know why

July 31: ‘Horekanike’ (offering in kind) procession in connection with the 10th annual feast of St Lawrence Shrine at Bondel will be held on Wednesday, July 31. The horekanike procession will start from Carmel Central School grounds on Maryhill till the Church in Bondel.
Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, who is the Shrine parish priest said that horekanike procession is unique as Hindus and Muslims make offerings in kind. Even temples at Pacchanady, Moodushedde, Marakada, Kavoor and Padavinangadi participate in the horekanike procession.
The annual feast of the Church will be held on August 10 and the novena will be held from August 1 to 9. The priest explained that the novena each day will be conducted for a different objective. On the first day, it will be for religious people; on the second day for the sick; the third day for social workers and political leaders; the fourth for protection of the environment; the fifth for married people and families; the sixth for children; the seventh for heads of families; the eighth for prayer groups and their leaders and the ninth day will be dedicated to youth. The chapel will be open for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 6 am to 7 pm on all days. Blessed candles and sacred articles can be found at stalls on all days. Devotees visiting the shrine from as far as Goa will be served food after the morning novenas, The priest added.
