Innovative Initiative in Udupi Transforms More Than 150 Garbage Black Spots Into Gardens

An innovative initiative by the zilla panchayat in Udupi District has successfully cleared more than 150 garbage black spots in villages and have transformed into gardens. The initiative was taken up under the Swachh Bharat Mission and has received widespread public support. The Namma Ooru, Swachh Ooru’ campaign was launched to completely get rid of the garbage black spots in the district. The majority of the identified black spots have bee cleared in order to develop gardens by planting flower and fruit saplings. CCTV cameras and signboards prohibiting garbage disposal in public places have been installed.
