Inspired by Kodi Bengre, More Villages in Udupi District to be Declared Tobacco – Free
Inspired by Kodi Bengre village, which was officially declared tobacco-free on May 31, the district administration is aiming to declare more villages as tobacco-free. Deputy commissioner Kurma Rao M said the request mainly came from the people, with regard to declaring Kodi Bengre as a tobacco-free village.
People in Korgi village in Kundapur and gram panchayat members in Renjala village in Karkala, have come forward to make their vilages tobacco-free. Preliminary discussions have already been conducted, and surveys will begin soon. Based on the surveys, counselling will be conducted. The support of NGOs and health institutions is being taken.
