Install CCTV cameras in buildings or pay a fine of Rs 5000: Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil
May 18: Mangalore City police are implementing Karnataka Public Safety Act which requires every establishment with a footfall of 500 or above to install a minimum of two CCTV cameras. During the weekly phone-in programme at his office on Friday, Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said that there are about 950 CCTV cameras in the city, apart from 200 cameras installed by the police and therefore police have been instructed to conduct a survey and ensure that every establishment had cameras and metal detectors for their doors.
Commisssioner Patil said that Mangalore city needs nearly for 2,000 to 3,000 CCTV cameras. The establishments and buildings, which don’t have CCTV cameras, will be given notices and if they fail to install CCTV Cameras even after our notice, then a fine of Rs 5,000 will be slapped on them.
