Is Faulty FASTAG Causing Huge Loss? Read This!

January 27: The National Highways Authority of India in Dakshina Kannada district, which tops in implementation of FFastag has unearthed a scam where some multi-axle vehicles (MAV) and light commercial vehicles (LCV) were reportedly using FASTag RFID stickers meant for light motor vehicles.
Cases of trucks crossing toll plazas with underpayment of their toll amount has come to fore in many toll plazas in the DK and Udupi district. It is alleged that faulty FASTags issued by private banks and e-services entities are the cause of this underpayment. In the toll plaza at Surathkal alone more than hundred such underpaid FASTag transactions have been reported.
Toll plazas of Surathkal, Hejamadi, Sastana, Brahmarakutlu and Talapadi have now jointly appealed banks to block these faulty FASTags and have also appealed truck drivers and owners to provide proper information to the banks and get a correct FASTag. In just a couple of months, these faulty FASTags have caused lakhs of rupees in losses to the plazas.
The truck owners are making profit as they are paying far less than what they are supposed to pay to the toll gate. The companies who have taken toll collection contract have lost lac of rupees in one or two months period. After the contractors of toll gate brought this scam to the notice of NHAI, decision is taken to block these FASTag.
