The two-day ONGC-MRPL International Kite Festival – 2025, organised by Team Mangalore at Tannirbavi beach in Mangaluru from January 18, will feature 24 international participants.
The participants will be from countries such as Slovenia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Estonia, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Sweden, Indonesia, and Greece, along with top teams from India representing Dhanu (Maharashtra), Kerala, Telangana, Odisha, Rajkot, Mumbai, Baroda, and Ahmedabad.
Apart from traditional, aerofoil, and inflatable kites, this year’s festival will put the spotlight on quad line sports kites, with stunt kite flyers from Greece showcasing their expertise in dynamic maneuvers and intricate displays, Sarvesh Rao, founder of Team Mangalore said. Team Mangalore started the kite festival in the city in 2005 and this year will be the eighth edition of the event.
Supporting this initiative, Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri, has joined as the institutional partner, furthering the cause of nurturing kite flying as a sport. Together, Team Mangalore and Alva’s Foundation will conduct a series of workshops for the region’s youth, featuring international stunt kite flyers, in the week leading up to the festival.
