KSRTC Bus Service to Mangalore International Airport From The City Likely to Start Soon

The long-pending demand for an AC Volvo bus service from the city to Mangalore International Airport (MIA), is expected to fulfilled very shortly. KSRTC Mangalore division has received four low-floor Volvo buses from Mysuru division, to start the service. KSRTC, Mangalore is waiting for permission from the deputy commissioner and MIA authorities, to start the service. Rajesh Shetty, divisional controller, KSRTC, Mangalore said that the buses have arrived and permission is awaited from the airport officials, to arrange for facilities, including free parking space.

KSRTC will seek a four-month temporary permit from the district administration. Permanent permit, will be obtained only after observing the demand for the service. In 2011, the bus service was launched, but had to be discontinued due to lack of demand.

The starting point for the bus service in the city will be Mangaladevi, Ullal and Kinnigoli. A recent survey revealed that a significant number of air passengers travel from Kinnigoli and Ullal to MIA. The buses from Mangaladevi will pass through Nanthur, on their way to MIA. While returning, it will pass through Dr BR Ambedkar Circle, RTO Circle , Attavar and Mangaldevi. The bus from Kinnigoli will travel through Kateel to MIA, and bus from Ullal will reach MIA via Pumpwell-Kankanad. Depending on the route, the tickets are expected to cost around Rs 100 to Rs 150. There is also a proposal to offer bus tickets along with airline tickets. The final rates will be fixed, after getting permission from the deputy commissioner.
