Lockdown Has Reduced Mangalore’s Solid Waste Generation by 22%: Click To Know

August 13: The lockdown due to pandemic has reduced Mangalore city’s solid waste generation upto 22%. Mangalore City Corporation generates an average of 335 tonnes solid waste per day but this year, it has dropped to 270 tonnes per day during the lockdown last six months.
MCC officials said that the pandemic has given a pause for the city’s solid waste management which increases 5%-6% every day.
Last year in April, it was 323 tonnes per day whereas this April, the city generated an average of 192 tonnes per day. Madhu S Manohar, environment engineer, MCC said that waste generation has dropped since the bulk solid waste generators in the city are markets, hotels and wedding halls were closed during the lockdown.
