Lt. Commander Disha Amrith from Mangalore to Lead Naval Contingent at R-Day Parade
Lieutenant Commander Disha Amrith of the Indian Navy, who hails from Mangaluru will be leading the Indian Navy’s Republic Day contingent. The Navy contingent will have 144 young sailors with a tableau featuring “Nari Shakti.”
Twenty nine year old Disha is the daughter of Amrith Kumar and Leela Amrith couple from Tilak Nagar near Bolur in Mangaluru. She has a BE (Computer Science) degree from the BMS College of Engineering. Earlier in 2008 she was part of the NCC Republic Day team and since then had nurtured a dream to be part of one of the contingents at the R-Day parade.
On the opportunity she has received to lead the R-Day contingent of the Indian Navy along with another woman officer Sub Lt Valli Meena S, Disha has described that she looks at it as a strength and not a challenge. Disha joined the Navy in 2016 and had completed her training in 2017. She was later posted at a key naval facility in the Andaman and Nicobar islands. She is an aviator for Dornier Aircraft and carries out sorties in the plane.
