Mangalore Gears Up For The First Ever Kudla Da Pili Parba: Click to Know The Details
BJP state president and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is all set to bring youth together through a ‘pili vesha’ (tiger dance) contest in Mangalore city. Under the banner of Kudla Samskritika Prathishtana, BJP leaders Kateel and Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, will organise ‘Kudlada Pili Parba’, the first edition of the tiger dance competition, at Nehru Maidan in Mangalore on October 2.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath said that the teams in traditional tiger costumes, will dance to the tune of the thase (percussion instrument) and exhibit their skills. He said that the competition will focus on all aspects of the traditional pili vesha of Tulunadu, including painting the body of dancers, dance sequences, presentation, and the skill of lifting the rice mura, a bag weighing 40kg. Each team will be given 20 minutes to perform. About 15 teams have already registered for the competition and the registration will continue till September 28. The competition will commence at 9.30 am, and will continue till midnight. A gallery will be set up to accommodate about 3,000- 4,000 spectators at the venue. Arrangements will also be made for those who do not get seats in the gallery to watch the event.
Cash and trophies for winners and also the eight best performers will be awarded special individual prizes. Stalls will be set up to sell costumes for the tiger dance, T-shirts with tiger pictures, key chains and other accessories related to pili vesha, at the venue. A stall will also be opened to paint the bodies of children, who are interested in donning tiger costumes, with watercolours. A food stall will be arranged for the convenience of visitors.
