Mangalore Police to Intensify Awareness Against Cybercrimes: Click to Know Various Crimes Fraudsters Commit.
Dakshina Kannada police has planned to raise awareness among the public through short videos on cybercrimes. These videos will educate people about the various types of cybercrimes fraudsters commit.
SP CB Ryshyanth informed that the videos will be released and shared within 10 days on social media to raise awareness. The SP noted that part-time job scams asking people to write reviews are on the rise. The SP urged people not to attend video calls from unknown persons.
There is also an increase in fraud related to share trading through malicious links. Initially, fraudsters pay a small amount in return to gain the victims’ trust. Despite the app showing ‘high returns,’ victims realise they have been duped when they fail to receive any actual returns. There is also a surge in phishing scams where fraudsters create fake ‘payment gateway’ pages. Victims are asked to share their details on these unsecured pages and using this information, fraudsters siphon off money from the victims’ accounts. Furthermore, people are being cheated in the name of online market platforms by being offered products like iPhones at significantly lower prices, only to be scammed.
