Mangalore Smart City Project: These changes are soon expected in Mangalore

June 26: Mangalore Smart City Ltd MD Narayanappa during a press meet in Mangalore on tuesday, June 25 mentioned about the several changes and developments to be undertaken in Mangalore.
Narayanappa said that an integrated transport hub will come up at Padil it had been proposed to set up the integrated transport at Pumpwell. The hub will be developed under the Smart City Mission on a PPP mode, he added. The district administration has already proposed to shift the development of the transport hub to the outskirts of the city, to ease the transportation system. In order to this a 20-acre site has been identified for the purpose and the total project is estimated to be Rs 500 crore.
To check traffic congestion on the road, bus bays will also be developed in Mangalore. Along with this, Mini satellite bus shelters too will be developed at Pumpwell and Bangra Kuloor. A pedestrian pass will come up from Mangalore Central Railway Station to Town Hall and the bus terminus at the State Bank area will be developed.
Narayanappa mentioned that 44 projects will be taken up in Mangalore under the Smart City Mission, at an estimated cost of Rs 958.57 crore. Under this, eight wards have been covered as area-based development under the projects wherein these wards will have Smart Roads and 100% underground drains.
Under PPP Mode a tender process for multi-level car parking in Hampankatta has been initiated where more than 600 cars can be parked at the lot. It will have a commercial complex as well. Tender has also been invited for redevelopment of the Central Market on a PPP mode.
An international standard swimming pool will be developed at Emmekere at an estimated cost of Rs 24.94 crore and Kadri Park will be developed at a cost of Rs 12 crore. To give priority to water conservation, two lakes – Gujjarakere and Kavoor Kere – will be rejuvenated under Smart City Mission, he added.
Along with this, proposals to develop Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospitals are also being planned under the Smart City Mission at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore. Development of Mangala Stadium at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.
