Mangalore Start Up Releases Edible Biscuit Cups: Gets Huge Response
To promote eco friendly initiative, a startup in Mangalore has introduced edible cups or biscuit cups that can be used to consume hot and cold beverages. The three-layer cups are made of ingredients including rice flour, ragi flour, maida, cornflour and vegetable oils with added flavours which undergoes multiple steaming process. The cups launched under the brand name Enchi Crunchi cost around Rs 10 per piece and are available in 90ml and 120ml capacity and in four flavours biscuit, vanilla, chocolate and cardamom for hot beverage, while we have added strawberry flavour too for cold beverage. The hot beverage will last for about 20 minutes.
Dixith V, partner, Vijaya Associates, said: “We have been working on this project for nearly two years and our team has collaborated with a company in Kerala to work on the research and development. Our aim has been to release a unique product, and as part of our research we brought edible cups that are already available in the market and tested the same. Since the wastage is high during making of this cup not many entrepreneurs are coming forward to experiment”. They are also working on bringing out edible spoons, straws, ‘chat’ plates and ice cream bowls.
The team recently made a presentation before Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath who appreciated the efforts made towards plastic free Kudla. MLA Kamath said that this initiative could be a replacement for plastic and paper cups and could play an important role in waste management.
