Mangalore University (MU) has issued marks cards and convocation certificates to the students with QR codes to help students. With this, Mangalore university becomes the first to adopt QR coding among state universities. So far 1.3 lakh QR coded marks cards of recently concluded semester examinations have been issued.

P L Dharma, registrar (evaluation) said that the process of introducing QR codes was taken up internally, and not outsourced to any agency. In the first phase, marks cards with QR codes were rolled out to undergraduates. The annual convocation will be held on April 16 and the certificates issued will also have QR codes. Already, QR codes for UPI payments are popular. The advantage of this technology is that certificates cannot be faked, and helps employers with instant verification.
