Mangalorean kid won Under-8 open category in Chess Championship held at Canada

July 28: Aaron Reeve Mendes, a Mangalorean kid has won the fourth place in the Under-8 open category in the Canadian Youth Chess Championship held at Regina, Canada, recently. Aaron, son of Arun and Jenifer is a studying in the second standard in Mount Carmel Central School. Aaron has been trained at Derik’s Chess School in Mangalore.
At the end of the championship, Aaron had scored 5 points in 7 rounds and was sharing the third spot with two other contestants. Due to tiebreak points, he had to be content for 4th place. Aaron was representing Ontario province in the championship by winning runner up in the Ontario championships.
By winning joint 3rd place honour in the national championship, Aaron was selected to represent Canada in the upcoming World Cadets chess championship to be held in China. Aaron is a fearless aggressive player on the board. He draws inspiration from his idol World champion Magnus Carlesn in the game.
