MCC Joins Hands With Biocon to Create Miyawaki Forest in Mangalore: Check Out
Biopharmaceutical company Biocon has joined hands with the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to create a Miyawaki forest in the coastal city. Miyawaki forest is a dense pocket of green that comprises native plant species. They are created to enrich biodiversity, encourage pollinators and support ecosystems. The proposed Miyawaki forest will be developed on nearly 80 cents of land owned by the MCC near the Karnataka Polytechnic Junction in Mangalore city. The responsibility of developing the project has been given to Environmentalist Jeeth Milan Roche, who has planted over 1 lakh saplings in the city.
This special initiative of developing an urban forest in the city will cost more than Rs 15 lakh which is being sponsored by Biocon Foundation. The work of removing the debris started on April 11 and the work planting saplings will start in May.
