MCC to Conduct Clearance Drive From May 7 to Enforce Ban on Single-Use Plastic Products

Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will conduct a clearance drive from May 7 to enforce a ban on use of single use plastic products on the basis of complaints received. MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar has said that as per the notification issued by the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Wildlife on 11-03-2016 and the National Green Tribunal order, the civic body issued a ban of single use plastic products but the  the orders are being violated by commercial vendors.

The health inspectors have been directed to seize plastic goods and issue fines against similar offences. In case of violations, vendors will be fined ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 10,000 along with being booked under Section 19 of the 1986 Environmental (Conservation) Act Also trading licences of vendors will stand cancelled in case of violations.
