New Year Celebration In Mangalore: These Restrictions Are Imposed By Police Commissioner

December 31: Certain restrictions are being imposed in connection with the New Year celebrations in Mangalore due to he prevailing coronavirus pandemic and the emergence of the new strain of the disease. Mangalore city police commissioner Vikash Kumar has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 (1) which will be applicable from 6.00 pm on December 31 to 6.00 am on January 1, 2021.
As per the prohibitory order issued by the Commissioner, following restrictions are imposed: 

  • Ban on the gathering of five or more people along with a ban on New Year celebrations on public roads.
  • Ban on gathering in public places, main roads, beaches, open areas for purpose of celebrating New Year.
  • No New Year celebration of any type involving large gathering is allowed in an open place, park grounds etc. However, in-house celebrations in residential complexes, private clubs can be held for members and residents, without organising special events.
  • Hotels, malls, restaurants, clubs, pubs, clubhouses or any similar establishments are prohibited from organising New Year events such as shows, programmes, music nights, DJ events, dance programmes etc. However, the establishments are allowed to carry regular business activities, including music within permissible decibel while also adhering to COVID-19 protocol.
  • The management of the establishments must ensure that there is no crowd formed outside their premises.
  • Management of hotels, malls, pubs/restaurants should take preventive measures in accordance with COVID-19 protocol issued by the government for the safety of citizens. They must also follow the guidelines issued by the police department, Pollution Control Board, fire service and other local authorities.
