Next Mayor of Mangalore City Will be Elected Unopposed on September 19: This is The Reason

The state govt has announced the reservation for the post of the 25th term’s mayor and deputy mayor of Mangalore city. The regional commissioner will conduct the election at the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council hall on September 19. As per the reservation announced by the govt, the post of mayor has been reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) General and deputy mayor for BCA Woman.

The next mayor will be elected unopposed since the opposition parties, the Congress and SDPI, have no corporators from the SC general category. Hence, an election will be held only for the posts of deputy mayor and four chairmen of standing committees. Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur, whose tenure as the mayor will end on Sep 18, said that the BJP has three corporators from the SC community, including Bharath Kumar, Manoj Kumar, and incumbent deputy mayor Sunitha.

After the election, the next mayor for the 25th term will continue in the post only up to February 2025. An election for 60 wards of the MCC will have to be conducted in February next year.
